Around Manila Continuation

I forgot to post this. This is actually a continuation of our adventures in Manila. Right after we arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, my brother and I went to the ticketing office to have our return flight rebooked. (We had planned this much earlier, actually. *wink wink*) It must have cost around Php1k per ticket, I wasn’t too sure. One day, I’ll rummage through my things, find the ticket and update this post. hahahaha. So anyway, on with the pictures.

These are the pictures on Sunday. The Eraserheads concert was held Saturday night – until around 1AM, I guess. We woke up by around 8AM or 9AM later, checked out, went sightseeing around Manila since then, until the evening perhaps around 10PM. I think we only had 4 to 5 hours of sleep because our flight the next morning was around 6AM and we had to be there an hour early. Correct? And I had classes by Monday noon, too. Hectic, I must say. Tsssk.

One of those pedestrian walkways from the MMDA.

We literally walked ourselves around Manila. It was a good thing we had a guide then. (My brother’s wife’s sister. Get that? hehehe)

Being in Cebu most of the time and being a first timer in Manila, I was extremely fascinated with the overpasses and the underpasses. It amazed me how these passageways snaked their way around the city. It looked like an octopus connection (READ: messy) and as someone used to the laidback life in Cebu, I did not find it exactly that visually appealing. Still, it amused me. See? I think that’s the MRT/LRT (not sure) railways at the left.

This one fascinated me just the same. I call it an overpass of an overpass – that’s the third “floor”. The first one are the streets. The second one, where I’m standing on, is the overpass and this one is the overpass of that overpass. I think it goes to the MRT/LRT station. We passed by here in the later part of the day.

A very straightforward warning sign from the MMDA. I like it very much — “DO NOT CROSS. DEADLY.” hahahaha

Manila streetscape in an extremely bad shot. Hey, we were walking here, so I had to take pictures fast. (Before the camera gets snatched. hahahahha.)

See how the passages wind around? Those with the railings are the pedestrian passages we passed by earlier.

FIRST STOP: Baclaran Church

But first we had to pass through crowds of people. Here is a deserted area on our way to the Church.

And here is a rather crowded one. Now we go back to where we passed earlier.

Time for some serious shopping in Baclaran. Not exactly what I was waiting for — as usual, I did not have the budget.

I’m not sure if this picture was taken around Baclaran. Anyway, I got fascinated by the jeepney windshields. Most of them were full of signboards compared to the ones in Cebu which only had a maximum of two, usually. It’s crowded and I would have felt claustrophobic sitting next to the driver. Hahahaha.

So this was how our shopping ended — and that’s just the shoes!

And then we went home for a while, to drop off our purchases (naks!), to have lunch and to recharge as well. Then we were off again that afternoon. We just had so little time.

One of the MRT/LRT (not sure again) stations. We went to Makati.

SM Makati. Finally, one that isn’t too crowded. But it’s new to me, being able to see two SMs, maybe more, in a two days. I’ve only ever been to one SM until this moment. Hahahaha.

We went strolling around and saw lots of malls. They were very close to each other — one block had this mall and by the next block, it’s another mall.

This confused me. Robinson’s Manila? We were supposed to be in Makati. Not sure about that but anyway, these pictures are no longer in chronological order, anyway.

Photo op with Jake Cuenca. I liked my look here. It made me feel like a Wowowee co-host/whore. hahahaha. Just kidding about the latter but really, I think I did look like one.

Not sure which mall we went in. But here, we purchased a box of Krispy Kreme, for my brother’s friend. I don’t think we ever got to taste it. The box was unopened from the time it was purchased until we arrived in Cebu. Tsssk. They looked so mouthwatering. Huhuhuhu. One day I’ll go back to Manila and buy a box. Hahahaha.

Glorietta. Minus the A.

Inside Glorietta.
Random poster in Glorietta. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus had a concert.

The mall felt like Daedalus’ Labyrinth.

Hard Rock Cafe, obviously.

Shangri-la Makati. Just right across Glorietta, I think. I’m not sure about that.

We never got to enter any of these establishments, except for Glorietta. We couldn’t buy anything, anyway.

Beyond my face (forgot to zoom that out) is Greenbelt 4.

ALIW.

Theater.

We got exhausted from walking around so we decided to head to Star City, just right beside the Aliw Theater. I heard there are lots of rides inside and I’ve forgotten the rates. *Sigh* We wanted to get inside to at least do some sightseeing but it was already closed by that time. Our “tour guide” had told us that the place opens around night time and closes by around 2AM. This was probably still around 8PM yet.

I’m not sure why I took this picture. We were resting here for a while, exhausted from our long walks.

Hmmm. Reminded me of Sassy Girl.

Sago and Gulaman. It did not exactly appeal to my tastebuds.

That’s an MRT/LRT (not sure again) station right up there.

We went back home, finally, and took a few hours of sleep since we had a flight scheduled very early the next day. We got up at dawn, took a jeepney and then transferred to a taxi on our way to NAIA. Here are some shots on the airplane:

We had some snacks — coffee (, tea or juice?) and biscuits. Hooray!

Going home. Yeheeey and Boohoo!

Up, up and away!!!
A very exhausted me. It was really cold by this time, I was actually shaking. It was stupid of me to use by tube dress as a blanket. Tsssk.

Touchdown! That’s the part of the airplane’s wings that scared me when the plane’s soaring high. For me, it seemed like it would be ripped out any minute.

More pictures here.

Leisure Trip to Cordova

Before I start with my usual work load (now, plus thesis load), I would like to share another expedition that my boif and I went to more than a year back. I had a research project for my Social Science class, entitled The Semantics of Barangay Day-as, Cordova, Cebu and its sitios. Mainly, we had to find out how the names of the places originated by asking the people, especially the older folks, around.

My groupmates had already gone to the place a few days earlier so I decided to go on a personal visit myself. I invited (or forced?) my boif to come with me, bringing along his younger brother. My teacher told us how to conduct scientific research but as a student who simply want to pass the subject (yikes), I really did not follow her instructions. In fact, I never knew the people we talked to, their age and the number of interviewees we had that day. Supposedly, we had to know to do that.

Anyway, our trip became more of a leisure trip. We went to the barangay hall first, which was located at the edge of the place (near the sea), then we walked from there, asking people around, going back to the main road.

They had restaurants at this point. Also, a land bridge was to be constructed (not sure if it’s already finished right now) that connects Day-as to a small island, just a few meters away.

Boif showing off his bod. hahahaha.

Me in the background, boif’s bro in orange and boif in the foreground.

That’s my slipper there. I had a big wound that time and they say salt water can heal them.

Boif’s photography skills

Older bro doing piggyback on (little) younger bro

I find this picture really cute. The little boy had an umbrella attached to his trike and he was wearing shades — protection against the sun.

Boif and I :-*
